The Jacaranda Show Budgie Society (JSBS) club was established in September 1998 in Pretoria by Mike Davies, Neville Greyling, Ian Nel, John Nel, Japie Smit, Pieter van der Linde, Corrie van Staden. The club started with 7 members and steadily grew over the years to the current membership. The JSBS serves the greater Pretoria area but has members in other areas.
The club is very active and hosts a championship show during February every year and has done so every since 1999. Together with three clubs from the South African National Cage Bird Association (SANCBA) the club has hosted the Safari Prestige Bird Show in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012. The Club hosted the South African National in 2012 on behalf of the Budgerigar Society of South Africa. In August 2013 JSBS together with SANCBA clubs hosted the SANCBA SA National Show.
The Show Budgie hobby is very rewarding and can be run on a small budget. The initial outlay does not have to be large as Show Budgies will breed in any environment. The cost to joint the JSBS is as above. These fees are set during August every year.
What does the hobby offer?
There are 5 area shows presented across South Africa in Western Cape, Eastern Cape, Free State, Kwa-Zulu Natal, and Gauteng. Additional to this a National Championship Show is presented in one of the areas each year. Various clubs also host Additional Championships shows.
Regular Mini Shows are held so members can see how there birds compare to other members in the club.
There is a great social side to the hobby in that members get together for meetings as well as discussions and aviary visits. Regular Braai's are planned were the family can get together with others in the hobby. See our year program for more details.
If you are interested please feel free to contact any JSBS member and plan a visit to discuss the hobby.
